Learn to Meditate
Meditation is ancient practice that is proving to be very useful in these contemporary times. Many people are finding that by learning a few simple meditative procedures they feel calmer and more hopeful and meet challenges in their life with more creativity and energy.
About the Meditation Course
The course will run for ten weeks (a school term). During the course many different types of meditation will be covered. These include:
- Breathing meditations
- Mantra meditations
- Creative visualisation meditations
During the first three classes, two meditation techniques will be introduced that form the basis for the remaining classes. During this time you can decide if this course is right for you.

What Happens in the Classes: We will be together for about an hour. There will be a brief introduction of ourselves to each other. We will say what we each want to get form the class. This will be confidential to the class. During meditations we will be either sit and/or stand, or walk around indoors or outside. Music will be used. From time to time we will use pre-recorded meditation practices.
Having a Goal: We all need to know what we want as an outcome from any project. By stating our purpose at the beginning of each meditation class we can more easily align with our goal.
Discussion: In each session you will learn one meditation practice. I will encourage you to share one small thing about your experience and listen to others do the same. Doing this helps with learning. Asking questions helps too.
My Meditation Background
Counselling people over the years has shown me that many people feel better and recover from symptoms of depression, anxiety and other forms of stress and distress as a result of particular mind/body awareness approaches that I use with clients. In 1982 I was introduced to meditation by Ken and Elizabeth Mellor, founders of The Awakening
Network. The meditations that I have learned since then, under their guidance, have formed the essence of these mind/body awareness strategies.
I meditate regularly myself and within a meditation network in the Wellington region. I am not affiliated with any religion. The practices that I use come from Vedic, Buddhist and other spiritual traditions.
Meditation Course Fee
The cost is $10 a class. There is an up front payment of $30.00 for the first three classes. If you decide to attend the rest of the course the remaining fee of $70.00 is payable. Contact Sara to find out when the next course starts.
